Fighting Off Acne With Proper Diet

By George Sratter

Acne steals the beauty away from everyone. Pimples, white heads and black heads are types of growth we do not want on our face. Proper hygiene and diet are very effective ways of keeping your face and skin acne free.Acne forms on your skin due to three major factors - overproduction of sebum, bacteria buildup and irregular shredding of dead skin cells.

Acne forms as hair follicles are plugged with excess skin cells and sebum. Excess dead skin cells and sebum seal off hair follicles irritating the skin. As the follicle gets plugged, it bulges and forms a whitehead. Other plugged follicles that are open at the surface on the other hand form black heads. Therefore, acne forms inside hair follicles beneath the skin surface. Most people think that acne come from irritated sweat glands - this is not the case.

Acne can be stopped and prevented if we solve the root cause. Sebum plays a major role in acne build up. Its ok to eat greasy foods if you are worried about acne. But there are other dietary factors that are being studied as potential causes of overproduction of sebum. A good acne diet to follow is low starch diet.

To clarify, dirt does not cause acne. Over cleansing your face with harsh soaps and chemical based cleansers may even worsen your acne build up. The important thing to remember when cleaning your face is to remove sebum and dead skin cells. Try some antibacterial facial cleansers to effectively eliminate bacteria.

In order to prevent acne, simple habits such as washing twice a day with acne soap, taking your hair away from your face, refraining from squeezing your blackheads and pimples, and using clean bed sheets and pillows.A good acne diet is rich in zinc, beta carotene and chromium. You can take some natural food supplements to help you in your acne diet.
