Adult Acne - Choosing the Proper Cure

By Jayne Amor

Adult acne is not something that adults want to have to deal with; after all, wasn't it hard enough to deal with during the teenage years? Still, this problem is more common than you might think and even the best treatments will sometimes differ because acne is different when you are an adult. If you are suffering from this embarrasing condition, test out some of these remedies which are affordable and easy.

Washing your face a bunch isn't going to help you clear up any moderate to severe acne. Yet it's still something that can help with your overall treatment program. Some people who have acne, are too rough with their face washing in their attempts to rid themselves of zits but this just irritates the skin. It is much better to wash your face twice daily with warm (not hot) water and a soft cloth instead of a rough washcloth. You can use over-the-counter cleansers but don't use any that are made with harsh chemicals, as these can make acne worse if you have sensitive skin. Your primary objective is to have clean skin and to be as gentle with it as possible.

If you have access to an actual aloe vera plant you should just cut it open and rub the pieces on your face. If this isn't completely possible, there are lots of good pure aloe vera products that can be nearly as good. You can also gain additional benefits by drinking aloe vera juice, and this too can be beneficial for your skin as well as the rest of your body. Wearing makeup can irritate adult acne when your skin is sensitive to the ingredients in it. Lots of cosmetics include a ton of ingredients and some of those ingredients are really harsh and oily and that can cause skin conditions. This includes many products that you can use on your skin or hair like oil, moisturizers, pomades and makeup. Do not trust a label that claims a cosmetic product is "oil free" because the labels of these products aren't regulated. It's easy to test the oil content of these kinds of products by putting a couple of drops of them on pieces of white paper. If a ring develops around the drop then the product contains oil.

Once in a while acne scars can be treated and cured with certain cosmetic procedures. A chemical peel removes the top layer of skin, so any shallow scars will be removed. Chemical peels can be used, for example, to get rid of or alleviate any scarring on your face that occurred. Most chemical peels are used to remove lines or to give the skin a more youthful appearance but they are also sometimes used to treat severe cases of acne as well. You can have the procedure done in your doctor's office or in a center for cosmetic surgery. They will often cause temporary skin irritations that can be incredibly painful and they could cause discoloration of your skin. After your skin heals, though, the scars should be gone. This is a good procedure to consider for acne scars because it can be used with other treatments too.

If you are trying to figure out how to get rid of your adult acne, these methods are just a few of the many different methods that you can try. Alternatively you can ask your doctor for a prescription solution like Retinol. It's important to pay attention to every factor in your life from what you eat to what you put on your face (skin care products, makeup, etc) because they could all be contributing to your issues. Adult acne is irritating but it can be cured.
