Teenage Acne

Nearly everyone knows what a serious case of acne looks like, and there are a variety of types. If you are affected by acne then it would be to your advantage to know it's type and if anything can be done to prevent it.

Acne infections may occur:

- as oil and dead skin combine and cause an accumulation at the opening of a hair follicle, then you'll get a whitehead;

- as an open pore has collected dirt, and oils have accumulated beneath that dirt and hardened, then you'll get a black head;

- if a hair follicle becomes infected or inflamed produces a spot that is red or swollen, then you have a pimple;

- when a hair follicle becomes inflamed or infected near the root of the hair follicle and has a thick red lump under the surface of your skin, then what you have is a cyst.

What's different between a pore and a hair follicle is that a pore is where the body releases toxic matter by way of perspiration. A hair follicle is under the skin and grows hair through the surface of the skin; usually about 1/2 inch. Body and facial hair are one way the body protects itself; it warns us about potentially harmful objects or insects touching us.

What Are the Causes Of Acne?

There are innumerable causes of acne. Teenage acne infection may be caused by over active male hormones called androgens. During puberty, both girls and guys may experience this increase which makes the oil glands to expand and produce more oil.

An second cause could be genetic. If one or both of your parents had teenage acne then guys more than girls, will probably inherit teenage acne. Another way to develop acne is through specific prescription drugs and medications with acne as a potential side effect.

Yet another cause of acne is the use of oil based, skin care products. Their oil molecules don't completely dissolve, but clog pores and prevent dead skin cells from lifting off. In this instance, without proper, routine cleansing, the results are acne.
