Easy Methods To Approach Acne Scarring And Skin Care

By Tanya Ramsey

Anyone that has suffered from acne, and that wants to get rid of it, must know there is something they can do about it. Of course everything will depend on the type of acne you have. If you have less than severe acne, you can treat it very easily with many different solutions.

Most of the time, the easiest way to start treating your acne is to have a technique for good skin care. By keeping your skin clear and clean, you can make sure that most of the acne that might develop will not occur. Your skin type is probably oily if you have mild to moderate acne. Then you will take care of your skin based on your skin type. Always avoid harsh chemicals in any of your treatment products, which, most of the time, are not found in high-end acne products.

There is a large misconception that has been going around in regard to how to keep your face clean every day. So, if you have very oily skin, obviously you want to keep the amount of oil on your face to a minimum. However, that is where so many people get it wrong because they are over-zealous in their attempts. By washing your face too much, it will strip away all of the oil from your pores.

If you have acne some of the best advice you can follow is to keep your hands off of your pimples. Don't squeeze them. Are you one of those people who are constantly picking at your pimples? If so, the odds that you will end up with scarring are increased. And when you have a scar, your skin has been damaged. Be very careful if you squeeze your pimple so you don't squeeze it to the point where it starts bleeding. That is almost inviting certain scarring or enlarged pores at the least. If you have a pimple that is close to the surface of your skin, it's OK to squeeze it if you apply gentle pressure. First, soften the blemish by applying warm - not hot - water to the area with a washcloth. Then, with a very delicate touch, you can attempt to squeeze the blemish. Don't make the mistake of thinking it's best to squeeze until there is nothing left in the pimple, because this aggressive squeezing can lead to skin damage. The most common type of acne is teenage acne, which is actually acne vulgaris. People tend to use over the counter treatments for this type of acne as it is probably the easiest to treat. But, there are risks that have been linked to over the counter treatments for acne. We're of course talking about the severe kinds of acne that create very large and painful lumps and using OTC medication for these. By taking the wrong treatment you can end up really creating a much worse situation. In instances like this, the person suffering may decide to use a more powerful form of treatment. So as you can see, it wouldn't be hard to end up in a vicious circle of some sort.

Emotional scarring is the other form of scarring - other than physical - that can occur in a person with acne. For example, there is often humiliation with acne and other negative emotions. The agony of having acne is especially intensified when a teen sufferer is harassed by other teen-agers while at school. Other associated emotions are decreased self esteem which can trigger other problems. Studies have shown that there is increased risk that a victim of acne can suffer from depression and suicide. If you want to avoid all of the physical and emotional problems associated with acne, get treatment right away. See a dermatologist right away so you can prevent it from getting worse.

People that get acne on a regular routine basis may do so because of a hormone imbalance. Excessive hormonal change can happen at certain times in a person's life causing acne to abundantly form. Follicular glands in your skin can grow excessively due to the hormone called androgen. Acne will increase due to sebum or oil production from the glands in your hair follicles because of this change. Since this is related to androgen, it is common to see acne develop through the use of anabolic steroids. Thus, two forms of testosterone can serve as hormones that can rapidly increase your acne levels.

When exfoliating your skin, and cleansing it, never over wash. Excess use of any product can actually damage your skin. Always know that whatever you do to your skin can have a beneficial or an adverse reaction to it. The initial reaction of most teenagers, and even adults, is to try and evacuate the blemish. But as you know, if there is a closed comedone, then squeezing it will only cause inflammation. You cannot force a blockage that's deep to the surface, so squeezing can cause more trouble.

When acne develops in teens, there are certain habits that must be developed to at least mitigate the condition. Acne can actually form very rapidly by doing a few things to irritate your skin on a daily basis. If you want to take care of your skin, using alcohol on it as a cleanser is a very bad idea. Any use of alcohol on your skin can cause it to have an adverse reaction. Alcohol that is used on your skin causes excessive drying. A person with acne will notice that their skin will become more oily causing the acne to get far worse than it is now. No matter what you try to dry out your skin, it will produce the same negative effect.
