Acne Occuring During Adulthood

By Ailene Cano

It is a fact that acne is not just for teens. It has been established that many adults also suffer from breakouts. For many years, acne has been stereotyped as concerns for teenagers. Also, it has been associated wrongly to having poor hygiene, eating foods that are considered to cause breakouts like pizza, chocolates, peanuts, and many others. But the truth is these things have not much of an impact when it comes to having acne.

It may be hard to accept sometimes, especially if you see that your friends or the people you see everyday don't have it. But you are really not alone. There are millions or even billions of adults who deals with acne across the globe. In fact across genders, 25 percent of adult men, and another 50 percent of adult women are experiencing bouts of acne flare-outs.

This has been associated as well with depression and anxiety among adults, plus unemployment rates which are higher than what is average. Nobody has to suffer ill consequence because of acne. No one has to keep him or herself from socializing and getting a good life. It can be done by educating oneself about truths pertaining to acne. This way it can be tackled and be under control and saving ourselves from feeling humiliated, unacceptable and many other negative thoughts one can think of.

Did you know that some do not get acne until their late 20's or 30's? Some even had it first time during pregnancy mainly because of hormonal changes. Some experience having it during menopausal age for the very same reason. Hormonal changes can have a huge impact on how the sebaceous glands produce oil. It can trigger over production of sebum, making our skin oily and more prone to blocked pores that could result in acne.

Genetic play a major role as well. Chances are you'll inherit your parent's genes in terms of being more prone to acne or not. How your body tends to fight infection or would react to various kinds of stimuli, your body processes, your body's chemical makeup, are just one of the known contributing factor foe having acne during adult years.

Over the counter products are widely available to help fight against acne. But if none of these works, go ahead and see dermatologist for further assessment and sound medical advice. He or she may recommend other regimens, procedures, and medications specific for your skin type as well as its condition.
