An Overview About Acne Cleanse Remedies

By Ailene Cano

Combating acne has been a challenge for many individuals, especially teenagers and young adults. If left untreated, severe acne could cause various mental and emotional concerns that includes depression. It is a fact that not everyone is gifted with model like skin, but a clear one can already provide a big impact on an individual's self-esteem.

One of the major causes of acne is the follicles or pores over production of cells that leads to blocking the pores. The blocked pores do not allow sebum to drain into the skin's surface, thus providing a good environment for bacterial growth. Basically, there are 2 types of acne, non-inflammatory and inflammatory acne. Whiteheads and blackheads are considered non-inflammatory, while papule, pustule, nodule, and cyst are all under the non-inflammatory category.

For the non-inflammatory acne category: A whitehead occurs when the sebum and bacteria gets trapped and stays below the skin surface, characterized by a tiny white spot. A blackhead is formed when the pore opens to the surface, allowing the sebum to slowly drain. The melanin contained in the sebum oxidizes, in which the color turns into either brown or black.

For the inflammatory acne category: When a break in the walls of the follicle occurs, the white blood cells rush into the area and make it inflamed, forming what is called a papule. Days later, when the white blood cells finally reach the skin surface, a pustule is formed or more commonly termed as pimple or zit. Lesions that are inflamed can completely collapse at times. A follicle break along the bottom leads to collapse forming a large sore bump. Large, pus-filled lesions can be caused by a severe inflammatory reaction called a cyst.

There are many acne cleanse remedies that you can find over the internet, from diet intervention, chemical preparations, herbal treatments, and the like. For severe cases, prescription treatment maybe recommended like Adapalene, Benzoyl Peroxide, Clindamycin, Isotretinoin, Oral Contraceptives, etc. Over the counter or OTC medications include Benzoyl Peroxide like Neutrogena On-the-Spot and Clearasil, Sulfur like Clearasil Adult Care, Salicylic Acid like Clearasil Clearstick and Stri-dex, and Resorcinol.

Acne myths are all over the place too like washing often of the face helps acne to clear up and that exposure to the sun gets rid of acne. But just like any health concern, determining the underlying cause is very critical to ensure that the right medication or solution will be administered.
