Dark Spots Left Behind After Acne Has Resolved Can Be Outcast Quickly

By Alicia Fitzharris

Post-inflammatory acne hyperpigmentation , a. K. A dark spots or red spots that are left after acne incisions heal is a standard difficulty that's commoner in acne martyrs with non-Caucasion skin.

Skin darkening occurs in the skin -the outer skin layer- when too much melanin (the substance that colors the skin) is produced, and forms deposits in the skin. To shed hyperpigmentation or melasma a process of skin renewal must be launched and sustained for some considerable time (2 to 4 months). Then to avoid re-occurrence hyperpigmentation must be stopped by a NO-SUN plan: avoid sun exposure at any cost! This suggests both UVA and UVB, true broad spectrum SPF 30 daily.

Hyperpigmentation is caused either by natural processes -an increased production of melanin to give protection to the skin from the sun or after acne inflamation-, or due to external interventions, for example estrogen supplements, birth control pills, or altered hormonal production during pregnancy, or cellular hypersensitivity to normal estrogen levels, if at the same time there is high sun exposure.

There are many products in the market which claim to lighten the skin influenced by melasma or hyperpigmentation. They say to work by both slowing down the production of melanin pigment in the skin and dumping melanin deposits. As less melanin is produced, and as the already darkened skin is peeled off by the action of glycolic acid, darkened skin gradually fades to match ordinary skin.

Most products blend glycolic acid with the chemical hydroquinone to lighten the skin, for the latter acts as a skin bleaching agent.

The key to skin renewal is a technique where (1) the skin is irritated or barely ruined by exfoliating agents OR dead epidermis cells are melted by enzymes without inflicting any farther damages to the skin as it is done by the enzymes in our products or it is softly spoilt by other procedures ("sanding" by dermabrasion or burning by laser). This is followed by (2) a natural reconstructing of the skin that removes imperfections, reconstructs collagen and elastin fibers that tighten skin, and increases the amount of glycosamoinoglycans, the moisture-holding proteins that give skin its firmness.

The stronger the scrubbing or skin damage, the stronger is the skin rebuilding action. Sadly, robust exfoliation causes powerful irritated skin with itching, burning, and agony. And the results of laser resurfacing or dermabrasion rely on the talents of the pro.

Nonetheless to get wonderful results it is important skin healing advances at rapid pace.
