More Myths Regarding Curing Acne

It is a struggle for most teenagers to obtain a clear and acne-free skin. The hormonal changes affect a lot of processes in one's body. For example, the oil glands are being triggered to produce more sebum and cause faster shedding of the skin cells and could block skin pores. When this happens, the trapped dirt, sebum, and dead skin cells encourages bacterial growth and could lead to acne breakouts.

At this point, a lot of teenagers would use over the counter products that is said to be effective in curing acne. Others would resort to home remedies and treatments that have been passed on from one generation to another. But sad to say, many of these are more of myths.

For example, they say applying toothpaste on pimples works wonders. But with the so many variants and active ingredients contained in toothpastes, they can actually cause irritation and may aggravate the condition. You wouldn't want your pimple to get more noticeable right? So instead, stick with medications that are designed specifically in treating pimples like acne gels or acne creams. It may contain 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide or 1 percent salicylic acid to help dry out pimples.

According to popular belief, stress causes acne too. As stress may contribute in your oil glands producing more sebum, it doesn't right away would mean or indicate that you'll get acne breakouts any time soon. Wearing makeup causes acne, so better avoid it. There are various makeup items that will not clog the pores and cause acne. Just make sure that they specifically indicate that the product is non-acnegenic or non-comedogenic,meaning. Some are even formulated with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to help fight acne.

To get better control of acne, use more medication. Now, this is a big no-no. Medications for acne should be used accordingly by strictly following instructions and its indicated use. Many contain harsh chemicals or ingredients that may harm your skin. This can lead to more redness, swelling, pain, and other unwanted side effects.

So if you really want to get rid of acne or keep it under control, it is always best to stick to methods that are medically proven to be safe and effective. But if nothing would work, better see a doctor or a dermatologist to give you a hand in resolving acne issues.
