A Brief Explanation Detailing How To Pop Pimples Correctly

By Eugene Yeng

A little information on how to pop pimples correctly is useful for most, since the wise recommendation to leave them alone is not always followed. Cleansing the infected area is the first step to avoid more problems caused from irritating the skin. Since spreading the infection is the last thing one would want, following some guidelines is advised. The danger of reinfection may be circumvented by careful cleaning up when done.

A pimple is an infected area of the skin which is filled with pus, basically made up of white blood cells which are fighting the infection, and bacteria. The danger associated with popping a blemish is that one can spread the bacteria, which may cause more pimples to emerge on the surrounding area. To avoid this from happening, a little preparation is recommended.

Some folks want to attack the offending area as soon as redness or swelling is apparent, but the outcome will be more successful if one waits for a white spot or open pore to become visible. Although some may recommend the use of a needle to pierce the blemish, this presents a danger of spreading the infection even more. If one pushes a needle too far and goes past the infection into the skin around it, the bacteria will be introduced into the skin and could easily spread.

Keeping a wash cloth moist with clean hot water, the skin around the infected area should be gently scrubbed for fifteen to twenty minutes. This will soften the skin and bring the pus to the surface for easier removal. Using rubbing alcohol or antibacterial soap, clean the hands thoroughly and dry with a paper towel, instead of a hand towel which may have bacteria present. Salicylic acid is useful to treat acne because it sheds skin and opens pores. Use some on a tissue to sanitize and prepare the area.

Exfoliation, or removing dead skin, can also be accomplished with the use of the moistened tissue. So the bacteria is removed as well as the dead skin and the next step is to pop the pimple. In order to minimize the chance to spread bacteria, it is best not to touch the infected area even with clean hands.

Either wearing gloves or by wrapping tissue around the fingertips, place two fingers on opposite sides of the area without actually coming in contact with it. An alternate method is to break a Q tip in half and use the two ends to apply pressure to the blemish. Massage the area from both sides with gentle pressure, rather than squeezing, since the inflamed area has already been softened with a damp tissue.

Once the pus is removed one should stop, especially if blood is observed. Further pressure may drive bacteria into the tissue, so care should be taken to avoid that. With some more salicylic acid or alcohol, the area should be completely cleaned of any remaining bacteria.

Finish with some benzoyl peroxide acne treatment applied directly to kill any remaining bacteria in or around the area. Do not cover it with makeup or skin moisturizer as this may clog the pore or cause infection. This is an important factor in how to pop pimples correctly because it could cause further infections or scarring. In a day or so, the swelling and redness should subside, and soon the area will heal.
