Take Care of Your Acne

By Anne T Miller

There are 3 main Acne causes: Overproduction of oil, The abnormal shedding of dead skin cells resulting in irritation of the hair on your skin and the constant everyday build up of bacteria.

Sometimes acne can affect your life, and if you don't want it to, you will have to do certain things, which are called acne care. Here are some easy things you can do to take care of you acne:

1. Scrub your face, or the affected area twice a day with soap made for people with acne, and warm water. Gently massage your face with circular movements, DO NOT SCRUB. excessive washing and cleansing can make the skin irritated and cause more acne. Afterwords use an over the counter lotion which has benzoyl peroxide in it. This will decrease oil and bacteria!

2. Don't pop your pimples. It's very hard not to do, but popping pimples can push the infected material deeper into your hair follicles, making it worse. This leads to redness and swelling and sometimes it can even lead to scaring.

3. Don't touch your face if at all possible, objects like phones, football masks and things of that sort cause sebum (oil) to build up in the places that they are resting on. Touching your face can cause your bacteria to spread to other spots of your face. Wash your hands before applying make up or treatment cream to your face.

4. If you get acne on your body, try not to wear tight clothing, it may cause irritation to the acne that's already present.

5. Remove your makeup before you go to bed. When buying makeup, be positive that you buy brands that say "noncomedogenic" or "nonacnegenic" on the label. Throw away old makeup that might look, smell or feel different then when you first bought it.

6. Keep your hair clean, and out of your face to prevent extra dirt, oil and bacteria from getting on your face.

7. Protect your skin from the sun. Tanned skin may hide acne, but it's only temporary. A tan believe it or not may actually worsen your acne.

I hope these tips have helped you learn how to care for your acne. If your worried or curious about acne, talk to a Dermatologist. These are doctors who specialize in skin care and acne care, they can give you the treatment which is best for you!
