Warts are caused by a virus called human papillomavirus or HPV. Not all of us that is exposed to the virus will produce warts however some of us will.

Warts are caused by HPV (human papillomavirus) and may typically take between 8 and 12 weeks to develop fully. Not all of us that are exposed to the virus will produce those cauliflower like growths but almost certainly a percentage of us will.

Everyone of us is susceptible but certain people are more than others such as children or people with weak immune systems putting them at greater risk.

The HPV virus causes certain areas of the skin to grow quicker than others. The obvious way to prevent warts is to avoid contact altogether.

This natural process can take from months and years to occur. There are other preventive measures to stop warts. Avoid touching them whenever possible and when you do, wash your hands thoroughly.

Other ways to prevent catching the wart virus is to avoid touching them altogether however if you do then wash your hands immediately after.

Do not brush, comb and shave around the areas that have warts and dont share nail files or nail clippers that belong to someone else and do not bite your fingernails.

Should you find yourself unable to stop touching the wart then keep it covered up but it is also a good idea to keep the area covered anyway to avoid them accidentally spreading. There are numerous over the counter lotions to assist the condition as well as burning them off with needles or laser treatment or by using liquid nitrogen but these methods will have to be carried out by medical staff.
