Can Your Acne Be Cured By Rubbing Alcohol?

By Ai Cano

My friend, who has acne, was suggested to use a rubbing alcohol acne treatment for her acne. She says it is today's most endorsed and widely used treatment for acne plus it is affordable. Then I say wooohhh...Really? Does alcohol really help acne? And so I look for an answer.

Isopropyl alcohol is what we called today as "rubbing" alcohol as it is obviously used to rub. It is produced by a combination of propene which is coal gas with water. Isopropyl alcohol is 95% included in rubbing alcohol acne treatment which is one of the most tempting suggested treatments for acne.

Rubbing alcohol is a substance that is extremely flammable and explosive; if you happen to swallow it, it will be burned within your liver and changed by your body into an element called acetone. This acetone can be highly toxic. Taking excessive rubbing alcohol can lead you to symptoms such as vomiting, dizziness, depression and worst coma. So what is the connection of this to your alcohol treatment? Everything!

Acne pimples start with a condition called follicular hyperkeratosis. This condition causes the too much production of skin cells within your face or neck of your skin pore lying beneath a sebaceous gland. The skin which is located inside your pore casts off cells quickly than the pore can discharge them, and then the oil are trapped under your body of dead skin. The acne bacteria are also gathered under your dead skin cells and then your immune system tries its best to eliminate them through discharging inflammatory substances - which also destroy the skin.

Hyperkeratosis is triggered every time you use rubbing alcohol. It kills DNA inside the cells underlining the skin pore. They peel off into your pore after they die. If your skin is not peeled, it becomes blocked and then acne shows. Aside from isopropyl alcohol, there are plenty of skin care products that can also trigger acne especially those products which include isopropyl palmitate, isopropyl myristate, decyl oleate and many more.

Furthermore, rubbing alcohol can cause dry skin especially if you are going to use other drying acne treatments. And just imagine how it will burn if utilized by already dry, lumpy or open pimples. Ouch!

So back to our question - does alcohol help acne? For my friend who has acne, to all the people who also has the case with my friend and to YOU! Yes alcohol cleans wounds and feels good and can even kill bacteria, but it does not mean it can make your skin smooth and look better. Wake up everybody! It only kills bacteria but it is not natural and recommended to treat your acne.
