Quick Fixes for Adult Acne

By Avery N Schwizer

Adult acne has lots of sources but it is rarely a welcome development. Sometimes the cases that afflict you are so severe that they cause scarring that needs the help of a dermatologist. Most of the time, though, acne is successfully treated with home remedies or over the counter products. Keep reading to learn some of the best ways to cure adult acne.

Most problems these days, including adult acne, have high tech solutions. Typically laser treatment is the best way to get rid of scarring but there are cheaper blue light therapy treatments you can use to kill the bacteria that causes acne. Treatments like these are great for preventing future breakouts but they aren't always 100% effective. There are lots of different devices you can buy but they usually cost more than a hundred dollars and you'll need to do the treatments at least twice a day for half an hour each time. These treatments require the investment of both money and time. This treatment can be bad for your eyes so make sure that you wear goggles when you use it. Blue light therapy can be a good treatment for people who suffer from serious acne but try to remember that you'll need to put in some regular effort to get it to work.

You may be able to get relief from adult acne from herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine. One fairly common Chinese herb that's used for a number of ailments is dong quai. This herb is recommended for a number of female disorders, and helping the skin is only one of its properties.

Dong quai can help with acne for both men and women. This is an herb that doesn't usually get applied to the skin; it is more often taken in a pill, capsule or powder form. You can also use herbs that are part of the India Ayurvedic healing tradition. Guggul is an herb that is usually recommended by the Ayurvedic doctors to help with arthritis and cholesterol levels and it has also proved to be helpful for the skin.

Some cosmetic procedures are good for removing acne scars. A chemical peel, for example, will take off the top layer of your skin so any small and shallow acne scars will be removed this way. Chemical peels can be used, for example, to get rid of or alleviate any scarring on your face that occurred because of acne. Chemical peels are a method of cosmetic surgery that lots of people use to remove facial lines or to help the skin look younger but some people also use them to treat severe instances of acne. These procedures can be performed both in a doctor's office or in a cosmetic surgery center. They will often cause temporary skin irritations that can be incredibly painful and they could cause discoloration of your skin. When your skin heals, though, your acne scars should be gone. This is a process that you should think about if you have acne scars because it can be combined with other treatments.

Lots of the time, the best way to treat adult acne is to use a variety of treatments. You might want to watch your diet and get rid of junk food as much as possible, take some vitamin or mineral supplements and use a good over the counter or prescription strength acne medicine. You could also try constructing a face mask from some simple ingredients. Each of these approaches are great for helping to clear up adult acne issues.
